Dorit Levi

Dorit Levi is an Israeli artist. Born in 1952 in Israel to a Yemenite family, she grew up in an environment she describes as full of laughter and cordial people. Her unique talent for drawing was recognized at an early age, and as an adult she studied at Wizo School of Art under the Israeli artist Edwin Solomon. Levi’s artistic vision is composed by the wealth of her personal experiences, the joy of life, and elements of the Yemenite culture- its joyous dances and bold colors. In the past, Levi lived for several years in Uganda, and consequently, its culture also seeped into her paintings - the figures with the embroidered clothes and the hustle and bustle of the markets. Levi’s painting style is considered cubist-poetic, with a complex composition and attention to the smallest details. Each of Levi’s work opens new possibilities for observation and imagination. Her works are on display in many countries around the world, including Canada, France, Japan and Israel.
